For Sale: Three Bedroom Mortgage

Sunday, October 12th, 2003

i know, i know. it’s been awhile. okay, it’s been more than awhile. i’ve been busy. too busy. more busy than i ever thought i could be.

busy and living in the basement. i feel like a refugee. we’ve hollowed out a nook in the basement. it’s kind of dark and cozy. mostly it’s been surreal. it’s like we’ve come into town for an extended visit that never ends. the food is great, the hosts are generous, what’s to complain about?

not much really. the house hunt was a success. our realtor was a trooper, traipsing us through strange homes, peering into closets. some of these places were real dumps. we began to lose hope in our price range. but then the clouds parted and there was our eleanor (i’ve been watching gone in 60 seconds). three inspections later (roof, pest, foundation), and we’re in wait mode. the basement walls here seem to be getting smaller the longer we wait for the next move of the seller. they’re getting their own estimates for the new roof that needs to be put on and the gutters that need to be replaced. oh, such trifles….

it doesn’t help that i’m a horribly impatient person. the entire homebuying process has been a painful lesson in patience. it sucks. the waiting is suffocating. the back and forth and back and forth and back and forth of homebuying is enough to drive reasonable person off into the hills of carefree apartment leasing. or basement dwelling. it’s a toss up.

if it all goes through, and it had better, we’ll be moving at the end of the month. and if it doesn’t, i’ll lock myself in the bathroom in the basement and cry.

in the meantime, it’s pray for the best and brace for the worst. come monday, we’ll know either way.

until then, this is the frustrated and frazzled (yet naively hopeful) dawn signing off.
